Introduction

Assalamu Alaikum!
Welcome to the first issue of Soul&Society!, a newsletter that aims to empower Muslims to grow spiritually and personally. We strive to provide our readers (the fine people reading this) with valuable insight, practical Islamic advice, and much more to help them grow spiritually and personally.
Here’s what we have for today:

INSPIRING QUOTES AND HADITHS

“The smallest deed is better than the greatest intention”.

John Burroughs

I heard the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, say:
“Actions are (judged) by motives (niyyah), so each man will have what he intended”.

Prophet Muhammed sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam

“Deeds are judged according to intentions”.

Prophet Muhammed sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam

SELF-IMPROVEMENT
The Right Intentions for Success

As Muslims, setting clear and right intentions (Niyyah) is fundamental to our faith and daily lives. Here are some steps to set and maintain the right intentions:

  • Begin with Bismillah(In the name of Allah): Start every task, big or small, to seek Allah‘s pleasure.

  • Set Smart goals: Ensure your goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time Bound.

  • Reflect and Renew: Regularly reflect on your intentions and adjust them as needed to stay aligned with Islamic Values.

SPIRITUAL INSIGHT
The Power of Dua

Dua (Supplication) is a powerful tool for spiritual growth and connection with Allah. The Prophet (saw) said, ‘Du’a is worship itself’. Then the Prophet (saw) recited this verse, ‘Your Lord says: “Call upon Me and I will respond to you. Verily, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell in humiliation” [The Noble Qur’an, 40:60]’. [Tirmidhi]. Here are four key aspects to enhance your dua:

  • Etiquette: Make Your Dua with the Proper Etiquette according to the Sunnah.

  • Sincerity: Make Dua with a sincere heart, fully believing in Allah’s power to respond.

  • Consistency: Incorporate dua into your daily routine, particularly during tahajudd and after the obligatory prayers.

  • Gratitude: Begin your dua by expressing gratitude for the blessings you already have, as it opens your heart to receive more.
